Around June 2nd, 2023, I received a call from a recent customer who owns a Lorex security camera system. The issue was he was able to login and use the cameras just fine from one of his iPhones and an iPad but could not login from the other iPad. There were no major changes to any of the iDevices and no logical reason why two of the devices worked fine but the other iPad did not.
We couldn’t determine what was different between the iPhone and iPad that worked and the iPad that didn’t but it appeared that there had been an app update to Lorex Home and we could not login from the iPad after the update.

Problems Logging into Lorex Home App on iPhone or iPad

SOLUTION to Lorex Home App Login Problem on Apple iPhone or iPad
The solution to the problem was not an intuitive one and seemed to deal with security; not home security, rather application security. It seems that there has been an update made to the way in which users authenticate with the Lorex Home app to prove they are authorized to view the app.
Since this June 2023 update, the Lorex Home app is wanting Biometric Unlocking features enabled and setup within iOS settings. My clients devices that were still able to login had setup a biometric unlock option within general settings (facial recognition or fingerprint unlock) and so, could still login. The iPad with login issues had not setup any biometric authentication options but once we enabled them, we were again able to login to the Lorex Home app!
If you are having trouble logging into the Lorex Home app on an iPhone or iPad, go to your device settings and under security settings, enable a biometric authentication option such as facial recognition or fingerprint unlock then try logging into the Lorex Home app again. This time it should work.
Steps to enable biometric security on iPhone or iPad
- Go to Settings > Touch ID & Passcode (or Face ID & Passcode for newer models).
- Enter your passcode.
- Tap Add a Fingerprint (or Set Up Face ID).
- Follow the onscreen instructions to scan your fingerprint (or face).
- You can add more than one fingerprint (or face) and name or delete them as you wish.
